What Are The Benefits Of Organic Food?

The organic food movement has spread rapidly over the past decade. Previously, organic foods were only available in health food stores, but now they are available in abundance in most supermarkets and grocery stores. Although prices have come down somewhat in recent years, certified organic products are generally more expensive than non-organic products.

What are “organic foods”?

Organic fruits, vegetables, grains, meats, dairy products, and even non-food items are grown under strict USDA rules. They must be produced without the use of chemical pesticides, fungicides, or herbicides. Products must be organically grown and free of hormones and antibiotics.

What are the benefits of organic products?

Taste

Organic fruits and vegetables are juicier, sweeter, and tastier. Organic vegetables grown in fertile soils are extremely rich in taste and nutrients and are generally fresher than imported non-organic vegetables because they are usually grown closer to home. And organic vegetables tend to spoil more quickly because they don’t contain preservatives, but organic vegetables are still a much better choice.

You may also notice a difference in the appearance of the vegetables and fruits, as they may be slightly smaller or less perfectly formed. This is exactly what organic food should look like. Organic meat comes from animals that graze freely and benefit from fresh air, fresh water, and healthy organic produce, which gives the meat a richer taste.

Health Benefits

Chemical pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, and fertilizers are known to be carcinogenic. These sprays and additives are widely used in non-organic foods and leave traces on the fruit, which often penetrate the skin. Washing food does not remove all harmful chemicals. Organic produce is grown without these harmful chemicals. Another benefit is that toxic wastewater from farms does not pollute the water.

In addition, people working on organic farms are not exposed to these deadly chemicals, unlike those working on non-organic farms. Animals raised on organic farms live much healthier lives than animals raised on commercial farms. Organically raised animals can graze freely in a clean environment with fresh water, instead of living in cages their size, covered in their own feces. This means they can live without antibiotics. Organic meat and dairy products are also not treated with hormones or other chemicals.

Regulation

To be certified organic, farms must follow very strict rules about farming practices. If food is stamped “Certified Organic,” you can be sure that it has been produced with care and that its origin has been thoroughly checked and certified by the USDA.

Disease and Allergy Resistance

As mentioned earlier, the chemicals used in commercial agriculture can cause cancer, so eating more organic food can reduce the risk of cancer. Excessive use of antibiotics in meat and milk can also cause antibiotic-resistant viruses and diseases. The prevalence of food allergies is increasing alarmingly. Unhealthy farming methods in traditional agriculture are another factor. If you educate your children about organic produce, meat, and dairy, you can greatly reduce their risk of developing food allergies.

Environmental concerns

Modern agriculture is destroying our land. Soil erosion from overuse is a major problem, and farms are one of the main sources of water pollution from toxic wastewater from farming. Organic farming strengthens the soil through crop rotation and the use of compost and fertilizers. No chemicals are used, so water pollution is not a problem.
